This will be a survey lecture on the current state of affairs on the classification of Riemannian manifolds of positive curvature. We will emphasize the techniques which have been successful in finding obstructions to positive curvature including comparison methods for geodesics, variational theory of minimal submanifolds, and Ricci flow
