Local Structures of Moduli of Stable Maps, Desingularization and Primary GW Numbers

In this talk, I will introduce a method to approach the local structures of moduli spaces of stable maps to projective space. In low genera (especially genus one), the method allows one to explicitly write down local equations of the moduli. Once the equations are obtained, it will become clear how to singularize the moduli space. For arbitrary genus, I will explain how a variant of the method can be used to define the primary GW numbers for quintic Calabi-Yau threefolds. The results are obtained jointly with Jun Li.
