Basic Equations of Modern Gas Dynamics

The basic equations of the classical gas dynamics are revisited on the basis of the asymptotic analysis of the Boltzmann system for small Knudsen numbers. There is an important class of problmes that the classical gas dynamics (the Euler or Navier—Stokes system) fails to discribe for the situation that it aims to describe, and the concept of the ghost effect is introduced. Besides, some fundamental statements in the classical gas dynamics have to be corrected.
