I will discuss the solutions to BCOV holomorphic anomaly equations and the finite generation problem. In the first part of my talk, I will explain how to solve the BCOV holomorphic anomaly equations. We will particularly focus on the case when the complex moduli is 1-dimensional. In the second half, I will explain Yamaguchi--Yau's result on finite generation for higher genus topological string amplitudes. The main references are arXiv:hep-th/9309140 and arXiv:hep-th/0406078
