I will discuss 1- and 2-parameter families of Calabi-Yau 3-folds constructed by Devlin-Nuer (arXiv:1308.2915) and Inoue (arXiv:1902.10040). The hypothetical mirror of 1-parameter family exhibits a strange vanishing of the instanton numbers in odd degrees. The 2-parameter family is given by Schoen’s fiber products of suitable rational elliptic modular surfaces, which is conjecturally a mirror of linear section Calabi–Yau 3-folds in projective join of del Pezzo manifolds.
