Consider K3 surfaces arising as double covers of the projective plane branched over six lines in general position. Hosono, Lian, Takagi, and Yau studied the compactifications of their complex moduli spaces in great detail, discovering a mirror duality between singular K3 surfaces. In subsequent joint work with Hosono, Lian, and Yau, we generalized this construction to Calabi—Yau (CY) double covers of toric varieties. In this talk, I will discuss recent developments in this direction and outline the key ideas of the proof. This talk is based on joint works with Hosono, Lian, and Yau.
