The uniform boundedness conjecture for torsion of abelian varieties over number fields is widely open, except for the case of elliptic curves. Our approach to this problem is to consider variation of Galois representations or, equivalently, representations of arithmetic fundamental groups, and we present several uniform boundedness results for abelian varieties and Galois representations.
