We review the construction of topological field and string theories. In the background of Calabi-Yau manifolds these theories can be solved using mirror symmetry and the holomorphic anomaly equations. We discuss this in the context of Calabi-Yau fourfolds. Furthermore, we elaborate on the computation of the genus zero and genus one free energies for fourfolds which are K3-fibered.
