We will talk about a generalized version of the GKZ system, called the tautological system, introduced by Bong Lian, Ruifang Song, and Shing-Tung Yau in 2011, which governs period integrals of a complete intersection family in a projective homogenous variety. We discuss its solution rank, and an application regarding identifying large complex structure limit candidates in mirror symmetry. This is based on joint work with Spencer Bloch, Bong Lian, Vasudevan Srinivas, and Shing-Tung Yau. I will focus on illuminating examples, instead of general constructions.
