Relative p-adic Hodge theory

The work of Fontaine provides a description of p-adic Galois representations of p-adic Galois groups in terms of associated objects called (phi, Gamma)-modules. We explain how to extend this description to etale local systems on p- adic analytic spaces, with a view towards making coherent relative versions of constructions in p-adic Hodge theory like period mappings. This is joint work with Ruochuan Liu, but also shares significant overlap with work of Peter Scholze.
