We will review the theory of rigid-analytic uniformization of Mumford curves and their Jacobian varieties, and discuss some applications of this uniformization theory to arithmetic geometry. In particular, we will answer a question of Ribet and Takahashi concerning the component groups of the Neron models of Jacobians of Mumford curves and their optimal quotients. This is a joint work with Joe Rabinoff.
