I will review the derivation of Sen's weak coupling limit in F-theory. I will explain how it leads to non-trivial identities relating the Euler characteristics and explore in details some examples. Singularities are essential in both the physics and the mathematics arguments. The mathematical discussion is streamlined by the use of Chern-Schwartz- MacPherson classes of singular varieties.
