We consider a multilayer rod such that waves through this medium are described by the one-dimensional wave equation. We give a reconstruction formula for identifying the physical properties of the rod by a measurement at its one side of the boundary. Our reconstruction formula is based on the explicit solution formula to the mixed problem.
