I will give two 1-hour lectures on some basics of string theory. The first hour will be "What is string theory?". I will describe how string theory is defined for physicists, what we are interested in, and what kind of calculations we can do.

I will give two 1-hour lectures on some basics of string theory. The first hour will be "What is string theory?". I will describe how string theory is defined for physicists, what we are interested in, and what kind of calculations we can do.
The 2nd hour will be "A preliminary of T duality". I will start with the basic example of T duality in flat spacetime compactified on a circle. Then I will discuss more general backgrounds with generic metric and B-field.
