I will discuss a potential automorphy result for compatible systems of l-adic representations of the Galois group of a totally real field. The result applies to compatible systems which are regular, self-dual in an appropriate sense and sufficiently irreducible. This is joint work with Thomas Barnet-Lamb, Toby Gee and Richard Taylor.
