To apply Arthur's trace formula to the calculation of the cohomology of Shimura varieties, we need to be able to explicitly evaluate weighted orbital integrals (and their stable versions) on discrete series pseudo-coefficients on real groups. This leads to interesting formulas for stable discrete series characters.
