The connection between Virasoro actions on integrable hierarchies and quantum cohomology makes it desirable to find general methods to construct Virasoro actions. In this talk, I will explain a simple recipe to construct tau functions and Virasoro actions for integrable hierarchies. This is a joint work with K. Uhlenbeck.
