14:00 - 15:00
308, Mathematics Research Center Building (ori. New Math. Bldg.)The aim of this talk is to introduce a method by Zelenyak in constructing a Lyapunov functional for quasilinear parabolic equation. It is well known that the construction of such a functional is very important in the study of asymptotic behavior of the solution of evolution equation. -

15:00 - 17:00
405, Mathematics Research Center Building (ori. New Math. Bldg.)In this lecture, we shall start more advanced part of the course. On the basis of observation that the Riemann invariants coincide with the end points of the bands in the spectrum of the Lame (or Schroedinger) equation, we relate the KdV equation with linear spectral problem and show that the KdV equation can be represented as a compatibility condition of two linear equations. -

405, Mathematics Research Center Building (ori. New Math. Bldg.)An overview of the paper 〝Nonparametric Estimation of the Joint Distribution of Survival Time and Mark variables〞by Huang and Louis (1998) is given. They established a representation of the joint distribution function through the cumulative marker-specific hazard function and proposed nonparametric estimators. The finite and large-sample properties of the estimators are also developed. A possible research topic and extension will be explored in this talk. -

Prof. Yih-Nen Jeng ( Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, National Cheng Kung University )2008 - 04 - 11 (Fri.)
13:30 - 14:30
405, Mathematics Research Center Building (ori. New Math. Bldg.)The talk will introduce how to remove the non-sinusoidal part of a continuous data string. The procedure to obtain a Fourier sine or cosine spectrum via a monotonic cubic interpolation will be shown too. Next, the Fourier sine spectrogram, which is a time frequency transformation generated from the Fourier sine spectrum, is theoretically compared with the existing short time Fourier transform and continuous wavelet transform. Finally, both the spectrum and spectrogram are employed to examine ECG and ABP data of several typical cases. Meanwhile, a sonocardiography system to sense wrist pulse is employed to take data and then analyzed by the Fourier sine spectrogram. -
