Constructions of Bridgeland stability conditions involve an ample class as a parameter. When the ample class approaches infinity along a ray, the `limit' is called the large volume limit. In this talk, we discuss a different way to take a limit in the ample class on an elliptic threefold, where we let it approach the fiber direction. We will discuss how to make this limit construction precise, and how the resulting stable objects are related to the stable pairs defined by Pandharipande-Thomas and their variations.
