In this presentation, I will discuss a general framework for modeling hydrogels with application to biofilms. We then discuss various limit of the model to investigate how biofilom grow and interact with the ambient fluids. Then, I will discuss a class of continuum models for active nematic gels and formulate the multiphase complex fluid model for the whole cell and its ambient (buffer) fluid. I will then discuss the simulation using this model for cell oscillation driven by an imposed chemical source.
